COLLEGE MEN'S LACROSSE: CORNING GRADS HELP POTSDAM TOP CORTLAND FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 99 IN SUYNAC PLAYOFFS (2024-05-03)

A pair of Corning grads helped the Potsdam men’s lacrosse team make some history in the SUNYAC playoffs.

Corning grad Ryan Hughes is a starting midfielder/attack man and fellow Corning grad Cole Slavin is a starting D-pole and team captain.

Potsdam won 8-7 in the SUNYac playoffs over Cortland, the first win over Cortland by Potsdam since 1999.

The win ended a 32-game losing streak to Cortland, and it came against a Red Dragons team that came in as the top seed in the tournament.

Hughes had one shot in the game for Potsdam and Slavin played on defense in the game.

Hughes had 15 goals and six assists this year. He’s fifth on the team in goals and points. He had one game-winning goal on the year.

Slavin had a goal this year from his defensive position and defensively he has caused 19 turnovers this year.
