HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' GOLF: ABEL EARNS MEDALIST HONORS AS CORNING WINS 2ND FIVE-TEAM MATCH THIS WEEK (2024-04-19)

BIG FLATS — Delaney Abel earned medalist honors again and the Corning Hawks won another five-team match on Thursday afternoon.

After sweeping a match against Horseheads, Waverly, Elmira and Notre Dame on Wednesday when Abel also earned medalist honors, the Hawks topped Horseheads, Waverly, Lansing and SVEC on Thursday.

Abel shot 40 and Amanda Hall shot 50, while Margherita Dadone shot 56 and Emma Frost shot 57 on the day. Jaedyn Vernacotola shot 62 and Zoe Martin had a 64 as Corning shot 203 on the day.

“Great week for the Hawks,” Corning coach Chris Clark said. “Very proud to be undefeated this week after playing two huge matches. Delaney played lights out this week and we have a confident cast of golfers around her coming into their own.”

Lansing shot 206, SVEC shot 214, Horseheads was at 217 and Waverly shot 218.

Lansing got a 45 from Hailey Baughan and Alessandra Monacelli shot 50, while Anna Lombardi shot 55 and McKenna Syer shot 56. Mya Gray had a 66.

SVEC got a 46 from Lauren Gillette and Annika Walle shot 52. Lily Kunzman and Gwen Shaw each shot 58. Emma Veasey had a 67 and Maggie Jennison shot 74.

Horseheads got a 47 from Ava Fairbrother and Olivia Hatch shot a 51. Sophie Hulslander shot a 56 and Sammy Bonnell had a 62, while Ellie Padgett shot a 70 and Maggie Tremaine shot a 78.

Waverly got a 49 from Breanne Robinson and Addison Hunt shot 55 ,while Lauryn DeLill, Sophia Sileo and Natalie Lauper all shot 57. Madalyn Farnham shot 61.
