STSR PRESENTS THE DRAKE HVAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: EDISON'S MILAZZO AND CHEPLICK (2024-04-17)

There were a lot of great performances this week, leading to some tough choices for the first athlete of the week honors of the season. In the end, it was Edison’s Thomas Cheplick and Gabby Milazzo who were named the Southern Tier Sports Report, sponsored by Drake HVAC Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Athletes of the Week.

THOMAS CHEPLICK
Edison, Baseball
Picked up two wins this week against defending sectional champion Watkins Glen/O-M. Overall for the week the threw 12 innings, allowing just six hits and posting a 15-4 strikeout to walk ratio.

Cheplick also was 3-for-7 at the plate with a double, an RBI, 3 runs scored and two walks.

He allowed just three hits and struck out nine in a complete game win against Watkins Glen/O-M on the road after going five innings and striking out six in a three-hitter at home against Watkins.

GABBY MILAZZO
Edison, softball
Threw a perfect game against Watkins Glen, striking out six for the Spartans.

That came after she threw a 2-hitter with 11 strikeouts against Watkins.

She started the week with five innings of one-hit ball against Lansing, striking out 10.

Overall for the week she threw 15 innings, allowing three hits, one unearned run and striking out 36.

She also was 4-for-10 at the plate for the week with four RBI and a double.
